Jingle Bell Ball 2012: Recap Of Day One Performances

The likes of US superstar Bruno Mars, nation's sweetheart Cheryl Cole and boy band sensation One Direction all performed.

The first day of the Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball 2012 has come to a close and saw some of the biggest acts in the industry entertain over 16,000 people at London's O2 Arena.

The likes of JLS, Cheryl Cole and One Direction were just a handful of the acts who performed today for day one of the Capital FM event, which was closed with a crowd-pleasing set from US superstar Bruno Mars.

JLS opened day one of the event when they made their return to the Ball, telling the crowd it felt "good to be home", before leading the crowd through huge hits such as 'She Makes Me Wanna' and 'Eyes Wide Shut'.

Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse showed off some incredible dance moves throughout their set, before ending on a high with their recent Vodafone Big Top 40 smash 'Hottest Girl In The World'.

The UK boy band were followed by the current girl band of the moment, Little Mix, who took to the stage with passion and energy despite band member Perrie Edwards missing out on the show because of illness.

Little Mix stars Jade, Leigh-Anne and Jesy got the crowd singing along to their recent singles 'Wings' and 'DNA', as well as surprising fans with their own version of the Nicki Minaj hit 'Super Bass'.

Irish trio The Script were up next as they brought their unique brand of pop-rock to the O2 Arena, with Danny O'Donoghue urging the audience to sing along with their songs including 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' and recent  number one 'Hall Of Fame'.

The Jingle Bell Ball then saw the arrival of energetic hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks to the stage, as Jordan and Harley bounded around the stage bringing everyone to their feet with songs like 'Down With The Trumpets'.

Rizzle Kicks even kicked up the festivities another notch by covering Christmas classic 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town', before getting the crowd dancing along to their signature song 'Mama Do The Hump'.

Next on stage were UK four-piece Lawson as they powered through several anthemic hits from their album 'Chapman Square', including 'Taking Over Me' and debut single 'When She Was Mine', as US singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was spotted watching from the side of the stage.

Andy, Joel, Adam and Ryan also surprised the 16,000 strong crowd by covering mega pop hits like 'Call Me Maybe' and 'Moves Like Jagger' throughout their set before bringing things to a close with their latest single 'Standing In The Dark'.

The O2 Arena was then brought to their feet as UK superstar Cheryl Cole headed out to perform her first or two sets this weekend, taking to the stage in a black tuxedo-style catsuit.

Cheryl gave impressive performances of her signature tracks including 'Fight For This Love', before being joined by surprise guest and mentor will.i.am for a crowd-pleasing duet of their collaboration '3 Words'.

One Direction then made their return to the Jingle Bell Ball fresh from arriving back in the UK and got one of the biggest cheers of the night while performing hits like 'What Makes You Beautiful' and 'Live While We're Young'.

Harry, Zayn, Louis, Niall and Liam also treated the audience to a number of new songs from their recently released second album, before ending things with latest single 'Little Things'.

Day one of the Jingle Bell Ball was then brought to a close by US superstar Bruno Mars, who ended the night with a powerful set including recent number one single 'Locked Out Of Heaven'.

Bruno brought all the crowd-pleasers with him, including 'Marry You', 'Billionaire' and 'Young Girls', before going on to sing an uplifting cover of 'Valerie'.

The Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball 2012 continues tomorrow (9th December) with a second day line-up of Girls Aloud, The Wanted, Calvin Harris, Example, Rita Ora, Conor Maynard and Pink all due to perform.
