BRIT Awards 2013: Ben Howard Wins British Breakthrough Act

The 'Only Love' singer beats acts like Rita Ora and Jake Bugg in the fan-voted category.

Ben Howard was named the best British Breakthrough Act at the BRIT Awards 2013 tonight (20th February) beating out some of the biggest new names in British music.

The 'Only Love' singer-songwriter, who released his debut Mercury Prize nominated album 'Every Kingdom' back in 2011, gave a humble acceptance speech while picking up the fan-voted award in person at London's O2 Arena.

"Thank you very much. I'm not very good at speeches, I'm not very good at dancing," Ben said during his speech. "But thank you very much, I know this is a voted for award so thanks a lot to everyone who voted for this.

"Thanks to my mum as well, I'm sure she rang a lot of friends to get me voted for this!" Ben added.

'The Fear' singer managed to win the award over fellow nominees RIta Ora, Jessie Ware, Jake Bugg and Alt-J at this evenings music industry awards show.

The BRIT Awards 2013 has already seen Emeli Sande pick up British Female Solo Artist in her first win of the night, while both Muse and Robbie Williams have already performed.

The event is still to see the likes of One Direction, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift all perform on stage.
