The 'Boyfriend' singer is just a few thousand followers from claiming the title on the social networking site.
Justin Bieber is set to overtake Lady Gaga as the most followed person on Twitter.
The 'As Long As You Love Me' singer is just a few thousand followers behind the 'Bad Romance' star on the social networking account following his recent bum flashing picture.
The Canadian star posted a cheeky image to his account this weekend, before quickly deleting it.
Gaga has long been the most followed individual star on the social networking account, and became the first person ever to hit 30 million followers back in October 2012.
However, today (21st January), Justin could end the female singer's reign as he nears ever closer to her total followers count.

Justin has also been teasing details from his new acoustic album ahead of its release at the end of this month.
He said he has been "writing my heart out" and is rumoured to have worked with British star Ed Sheeran on the record.
The album will feature two new songs as well as acoustic renditions of tracks from his last album 'Believe'.
