The film's director also says the 'We Found Love' singer was very easy to work with on set.
Rihanna's 'Battleship' director Peter Berg says the 'You Da One' singer is 'really good' in his film.
The 'Friday Night Lights' director says he was surprised no one else had thought to cast Rihanna in anything before now, and promises she has a "strong part" in the sci-fi movie.
"She was great. She has a very strong part," Peter told MTV News. "I've always believe in musicians as actors.
"I was surprised no one had ever thought to hire Rihanna," he explained. "I was a huge fan of her videos. Obviously she's sexy, but she had this real intensity.
The director also said the 'We Found Love' singer was completely down to earth when he met her for the first time to discuss her role in 'Battleship' as weapons specialist Raikes.
"When I met with her, she came in a T-shirt and jeans, no makeup, very natural," Peter recalled. "She was like, 'Look, I want to be an actress. Don't kiss my ass. Don't lie to me. Push me. Treat me as you would any other actor. Help make me good."
'Battleship' is due to be released in cinemas worldwide on 18th May.
