The 'Freedom' singer says Mariah has always been one of her favourite artists of all time.

Nicki Minaj says everything is fine between her and fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey after their fallout last month, and has praised the 'My All' singer as having one of the "most amazing voices in the world".

The 'Va Va Voom' rapper revealed some of her best childhood memories involve Mariah's music and has hailed her as one of her "favourite artists of all time", but says sometimes passions run high on the set of the Fox reality series.

"She's been one of my favourite artists of all time since I can remember, so it's weird that everything was kind of blown up like that," Nicki revealed during an appearance this week on Good Morning America. "But it didn't make me happy because she knows how much I adore her.

"Some of my best childhood memories with my mum are from Mariah's music," Nicki explained. "I can't deny that and I can't take away what she's done in my life and in pop culture in general, and just having one of the most amazing voices in the world.

"Having said that, I am an adult and we're passionate on the set and sometimes when you are a passionate woman it kind of ruffles other women's feathers," the 'Starships' rapper added. "But I'm going to continue to be Nicki Minaj.

The 'Roman Reloaded' singer also opened up about how she sees herself on the talent show, and says she doesn't see herself as a "tough" judge but thinks it is important to give contestants an honest opinion of their ability.

"I wouldn't consider myself a tough judge, I would consider myself an honest judge," she added. "I want them to leave with the truth, because I feel like the truth has always fuelled me to get better."

Last weekend Nicki both performed at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles and picked up two awards on the night, when she was presented with gongs for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Best Rap-Hip-Hop Album.

Nicki Minaj launched her repackaged album 'Pink Friday: Romand Reloaded - The Re-Up' this week across the world.
