Zendaya fans are freaking out after she publicly referred to Tom Holland as her "boyfriend" during the Emmys.

The 26-year-old made history at the 2022 Emmys on Monday (Sept 12), becoming the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series twice, as well as the youngest actress to win two Emmys in the same category ever, for playing Rue in Euphoria.

During her acceptance speech, she gave a shout out to her loved ones, as well as saying her “greatest wish” for her character, who struggles with addiction in the show, was that it could help others.

Accepting her award, the star said: “My greatest wish for Euphoria is that it could help heal people. I’m so grateful for your stories, and I carry them with me, and I carry them with her.”

After accepting her award, Zendaya went backstage and was asked by E! News, 'Who was the first person she called after winning?' She sweetly replied that she’d texted her boyfriend - a.k.a. Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland.

The couple, who first met in 2016 as co-stars on Spider-Man: Homecoming, initially kept their relationship secret and are usually pretty private about it, meaning fans were pleasantly surprised at the cute moment.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Zendaya saying “boyfriend” out loud to describe Tom for the first time publicly whilst holding her Emmy award after being one of the youngest ppl to win it twice I’m just”.

Another person wrote: “me freaking out that zendaya called tom her boyfriend as if we didn’t already know they’re dating”.

A third person added: "ZENDAYA CALLED TOM HER BOYFRIEND NO FUCKING WAY WE’VE COME SO FAR".

Although the couple are generally private about their relationship, Zendaya did open up last year about the reasons she ad Tom tried to keep their relationship a secret for so long.

Speaking to GQ, she said: “The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own…

“I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other.”

For Tom’s birthday back in June, Zendaya also broke contention and posted a cute black and white photo of the pair and wrote: “Happiest of birthdays to the one who makes me the happiest <3."
