The 'Money On My Mind' star speaks about the love that inspired his solo music.

Sam Smith has opened up on suffering from unrequited love… and the man who inspired much of the music from his debut album 'In The Lonely Hour'.

The 'Stay With Me' singer released his first record earlier this year, filled with love songs about dealing with a broken heart, and Sam has now opened up about what happened to inspire the emotional song lyrics.

"It's really tough to explain, but no, he's not gay," Sam told The Sun, while opening up on the inspiration for his unrequited love. "Nothing ever happened between us.

"I know he loved me too, but not in that way," he explained. "When I wrote the record I was just really heartbroken, all I wanted to do is go to the studio and write about this guy who I fell in love with."
