The singer says the track, taken from her forthcoming album, is "happy and hippy".
Rihanna has confirmed details about her new single 'Diamonds' and said fans can expect some "positive" lyrics.
The track will be the first song to be taken from her forthcoming album – the follow-up to 2011's 'Talk That Talk'.
Speaking following a live performance in America this weekend, Rihanna said her fans – better known as the Rihanna Navy – can expect a different direction from the song.
"Your happy and hippy," Rihanna said of the song. "It's laid-back but it's hopeful. It's a record that... gives me such a great feeling when I listen to it.
"The lyrics are very hopeful and positive, but it's about love and... a little different to what people would expect, I think. I'm excited about that," she continued. "I'm excited to surprise them sonically."
Rihanna was a special guest during Coldplay's performance at the London 2012 Paralympics Closing Ceremony:
Rihanna's currently untitled new album is expected to be released just a year after 'Talk That Talk', which featured her award-winning Calvin Harris produced single 'We Found Love'.
Speaking about her new album, Rihanna told iHeartRadio: "When I make an album, that's what I think about; what I want to hear, what I love to hear.
"I think that's what my fans love... I always want to make it interesting for them. I always want to make it a little fresh and a little ahead of what's on the radio. That's the challenge for me, but I enjoy that."
Rihanna's new single is also the title of her forthcoming 'Diamonds' world tour, which kicks off in Buffalo, New York in March 2013.
