The singer delivered a high-energy performance of 'Where Have You Been' on the US TV talent show.
Dressed in a revealing black outfit, RiRi emerged from a pyramid of lasers at the start of the song, while drummers banged their instruments in time with the music.
As the performance unfolded, the 'We Found Love' star was joined by dozens of backing dancers, who moved in unison with the singer.
At the end of the song, Rihanna simply said: "I love you Idol" as the crowd cheered along.
'Where Have You Been' is the latest single to be taken from Rihanna's 2011 album 'Talk That Talk'.
