The 'We Found Love' star says she felt a "pain" like no other when a past relationship broke down.

Rihanna has confessed that she is "afraid" of falling in love again and starting a new relationship because of her previous romances.

The 'You Da One' star told Harper's Bazaar that she was once "really, really, really in love" before her life changed in "the blink of an eye".

"When I was in love, I fell so hard. I was really, really, really in love. The way it made me feel was priceless," she admitted. "And in a blink of an eye my whole life changed.

"Everything that I knew was different. I never thought I'd feel that pain in my life. I'm afraid of feeling that again."

The star declared she has been "conservative" in her love life and struggles to let people in if she finds she's getting "too close" to anyone.

"I have been conservative in my love life, it's pretty much non-existent," she said. "If I come across someone who I find really cool, I'll hang out. But the minute I find that we’re getting too close I just—I don't let people in."

The singer has been linked to a variety of high-profile stars since she split from R&B star Chris Brown including Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher and Basketball star J R Smith.

The Bajan star recently returned home following the tragic death of her grandmother Dolly and was back in the UK this weekend for the Wireless Festival 2012 at London's Hyde Park.
