The 'Little Things' stars become the first act since 2005 to reach the milestone with two albums in the same year.

One Direction have become the first act for seven years to have two different albums in the same calendar year sell over one million copies.

The 'Live While We're Young' stars have hit the new milestone thanks to sales of 127,000 copies of their latest record 'Take Me Home' this past week – which pushed them over the one million mark.

The last artist to achieve a similar feat to the British stars was Kenny Chesney with 'Be As You Are: Songs From An Old Blue Chair' and 'The Road and the Radio'.

One Direction's debut 'Up All Night' has since sold a total of one and a half million copies following its March release.

Both of their albums have made their way into the top ten best selling of the year, with Adele's '21' taking top spot with a total of 4.3 million sold and Taylor Swift's 'Red' in second with 2.59 million.

Meanwhile, the band are currently preparing for the release of their first ever 3D concert movie in August 2013.

The band will also head out on their new world tour early next year, kicking things off at the O2 Arena in London in February.
