The music mogul says the band are great to work with and admits the world is theirs right now.
One Direction's hard work and ability to work well as a group has been credited as the reason for their huge success, according to Simon Cowell.
The music mogul was the man who masterminded putting the band together after they auditioned as solo performers on The X Factor back in 2010.
He told MTV News that he always thought they would do well but couldn't predict the global success that has since ensued.
"No! I mean, you know, I thought they would work as a band, but you can't predict these kinds of things," he confessed. "But it's down to them."
He continued: "They've worked hard. They work really well as a group. The records are good. They're nice guys to work with. So the world, right now, is theirs."
The band recently capped a fantastic 2012 with three wins at the MTV VMAs 2012 and became the first British group in history to see their debut album hit the top of the Billboard 200 in the US this year.
