The British boy band stormed the event with their massive hit single 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

One Direction made their mark on the London 2012 Olympics Games tonight (12th August) for the highly anticipated closing ceremony, directed by David Arnold and Kim Gavin.

Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson burst into the Olympic Stadium this evening to treat the thousands gathered for the ceremony to a performance of their worldwide smash single 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

The 'Gotta Be You' singers arrived on the back of a trailer as they opened their performance, prompting deafening screams from those in attendance.

The five-piece band stopped off to perform on a stage, before rejoining their trailer vehicle for a further victory lap across the stadium.

The Kinks frontman Ray Davies then arrived into the stadium to huge cheers to lead the crowd their signature song 'Waterloo Sunset'.

Earlier in the evening Emeli Sande opened tonight's closing ceremony, and was followed by Madness and Pet Shop Boys, who performed 'Our House' and 'West Ends Girls', respectively.

The London 2012 Closing Ceremony is expected to feature performances from the likes of Tinie Tempah, Jessie J and The Spice Girls, before the event features the extinguishing of the Olympic flame and the official handover of the Olympic Games to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil.
