The former couple are said to have cleared the air after Simon Cowell told Harry to contact the singer.

One Direction's Harry Styles and Taylor Swift have decided to remain friends, according to reports.

The pair, whose short-lived romance ended earlier this month, have apparently cleared the air after Simon Cowell advised Harry to contact the 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' singer.

"Harry still really likes Taylor but, like anyone who has gone through a break-up, he's found it difficult to speak to his ex," a source told the Daily Mirror.

"After flying back to the UK, Harry's been trying to figure things out and in order to do that he decided to initially avoid her calls.

"Simon gave Harry a friendly warning that any animosity between him and Taylor could jeopardise One Direction’s popularity in the US."

The source continued: "They're two of the world's biggest music stars, and Simon knew that, although things didn't work out between them, they were bound to meet at various events and awards ceremonies."

One Direction and Taylor Swift are both nominated at this year's BRIT Awards, which take place in London next month.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' group are currently visiting Japan, where they are believed to be filming their forthcoming 3D movie.
