The rock band frontman says Harry was a "real dude" while they recorded some music together recently.

One Direction's Harry Styles has been songwriting with Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody for the UK boy band's new album.

The 'Chasing Cars' singer confirmed that he and Harry got in the recording studio together recently to work on some songs, and described the boy band star as a "real dude".

"We wrote with Harry. It was a lot of fun. He's a real dude actually," Gary told The Sun this week. "We've no idea if those songs will make it yet, though.

"It's a long process. It's great to work with other people, it's good to flex the muscle."

But despite fan speculation that the songs could be for a potential solo project for Harry, a source insists it is all for One Direction's third studio record.

"One Direction always work solo with writers and are doing the same for the new album," a source explained. "It saves time, which is so precious for a band under their pressures.

"The tracks Harry worked on with Gary are 100 per cent for the new One Direction album and not a solo album," they added.

Last month audio leaked online of a solo song Harry recorded with Burning Beaches singer sam McCarthy, sparking internet speculation about a potential One Direction split.

One Direction are still taking their 'Take Me Home' tour across North America.
