The 'Little Things' stars won the first ever Global Success prize following their success across the pond over last 12 months.
One Direction have been taking to Twitter to praise their fans following their BRITs Global Success win at the BRIT Awards 2013 last night (20th February).
The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars took home their second ever prize from the industry event following last year's Best British Single win.
Liam Payne wrote on his social networking account: "Hi I'd like to start with the word amazing can't believe you did it again buying all those singles and albums and winning a Brit thank you x."
There was equal thanks from Irish star Niall Horan who said he would be celebrating by getting a cheeseburger.
"Yessss! We won a Brit award! Thank you so much to all of you for gettin us here ! Now off to mcdonalds for a double cheese burger," he said.
An emotional Louis Tomlinson, who spoke first as the band accepted the prize, tweeted: "Ahhhhhhhhhhh . What a f****** night !! You guys are unreal ! We love you all !!"
The band missed the chance of winning another award at the ceremony – losing out to Mumford & Sons for British Group.
The big winners of the night were Emeli Sande and Ben Howard, who both took home two prizes.
Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean and The Black Keys also were among the prizes with performances coming from the likes of Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake and Emeli Sande.
