The 'Starships' singer opens up about her love for the UK and how she deals with Twitter abuse.

Nicki Minaj has confessed that her attempts to put on an English accent are based on watching Scary Spice Mel B and Herione Granger from the Harry Potter series.

The 'Pound The Alarm' singer has been heard speaking in her accent during various interviews and TV appearances and told the Guardian that Mel B is someone she likes to try and emulate.

"There are so many, but one person was Scary Spice. I used to listen to her all the time and try to make the same faces she'd make when she was talking," she admitted. "Oh, and Hermione from Harry Potter!"

The Trinidad-born star also spoke out about how she deals with abuse on social networking sites such as Twitter.

"It's important to know that you're an amazing person," she said. "You have to know that as long as you love who you are – your morals, your values, that type of stuff – you're OK.

"And I have to remind myself of that, I really do. It gets tough. I just tell people: don't even come in the business if you think it's going to be peaches and rainbows and unicorns. It's not for the faint of heart. It's for fighters."

Nicki is currently in the UK and Ireland on her new 'Pink Friday Reloaded' arena tour, which will see the star performing in Manchester this evening (2nd November) before heading to Sheffield, Dublin and Cardiff.
