The 'Born This Way' star's friendly tweets encourage her fans to buy her music legally.

Lady Gaga's Twitter account earns the singer $30 million a year, according to a new report.

The Wall Street Journal calculated the figure based on the size of the star's account, which currently stands at over 20 million followers.

The American newspaper says Lady Gaga's interaction with her fans means that they are more likely to buy her music legally.

The estimated figure is around a third of the singer's $90 million fortune, that she has amassed from record sales and touring since the release of her debut album 'The Fame'.

Earlier this month, Lady Gaga became the first Twitter user to accumulate more than 20 million followers.

On Friday (16th March), Rihanna took to Twitter to thank her fans after she past 15 million Twitter followers.
