The 'Doo Wops & Hooligans' star speaks about the emotions he felt writing his latest single.

Bruno Mars has opened up on the emotional pull of his latest single release' When I Was Your Man'.

The 'Locked Out Of Heaven' singer recently debuted the official music video for the track – his third release from second album 'Unorthodox Jukebox'.

"You know it's one of those things where even girls can relate to this song. That's how it works. Everyone makes mistakes," he told MTV News. "And I remember writing that and it's the simple things, the little things.

"Like, I should have bought you flowers; I should have just let you know when I had the chance."

The US star also revealed the difficulties he endured writing the song and admitted how exposed he let himself become.

"And that was probably the most difficult song to write just because you know I'm so naked on that song, out of all the sexual songs I'm singing about, that's the one I'm most vulnerable," he added. "And I think a piano and a vocal is the most purest form of music."

Meanwhile, the singer is currently preparing to head to this weekend's Grammy Awards where he will hit the stage alongside Sting and Rihanna for a collaborative performance.
