Will there be a second season of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix? What will happen? Who will be in it? Filming has started and here's everything you need to know...
Netflix's superhero series The Umbrella Academy has taken the whole world by storm. Based on the comic book series of the same name (written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way), The Umbrella Academy tells the story of seven adopted siblings who were born under mysterious circumstances and all possess powerful abilities (except for Vanya... well, kind of).
The estranged siblings find themselves reunited following the death of their father Sir Reginald Hargreeves and later end up trying to save the world.

Season one finishes on a major cliffhanger and there's plenty of unanswered questions that fans are dying to know the answer to. So, that now begs the question: Will there be a season two of The Umbrella Academy? Yes! Netflix have officially renewed the series.
Season 2 has already been filmed, and post-production is now underway. Revealed on Instagram by show runner Steve Blackman, the coronavirus pandemic has not halted the editing process of season 2.
Yes! The Umbrella Academy has been officially renewed for season 2 by Netflix – but we might be waiting a while for it to drop.
The first season only dips into the second volume of The Umbrella Academy comics, so there is still plenty of material for the show to cover. However, in an interview with IndieWire, show-runner Steve Blackman revealed that one season of the show takes almost 18 months to complete. So if there is a season two, we might not get it until late 2020 or early 2021.
Seeing as one season of the show takes 18 months to complete, we could be looking at somewhere between the end of 2020 and 2021. The second season started filming in June 2019 and wrapped in November 2019. Post-production is currently underway on season 2. It has not been affected too heavily by Netflix's shut down amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Blackman shared a look at season 2 on Instagram, revealing Diego Hargreeves' new, long-haired look.
Blackman also dropped the first glimpse at season 2, episode 1 back in May, revealing the title of episode which is called "Right Back Where We Started".
Considering the way in which the first season ended (with everyone except Vanya – and Ben, obviously – jumping into a vortex and travelling back in time), it sounds like the start of season 2 might either take us back to the start of the first season (where we started) or even back to when they were children (where we started started.)
Either way, Hargreeves sibling time travel is coming. Prepare yourselves.
All of the Hargreeves siblings will be back for more madness. Ellen Page (Vanya), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number Five) and Justin H. Min (Ben) are all integral to the series.
Given the huge twist at the end of the show, with all of the siblings travelling back in time, The Umbrella Academy season 2 could feature many new characters, as well as some returning faces. We've had some huge deaths in season 1 – including Detective Patch (Ashley Madekwe) and Pogo (Adam Gole) – but chances are that they could return now seeing as we'll be in an alternate reality.
Expect more of Hazel (Cameron Britton) and Cha Cha (Mary J. Blige) too. Sir Reginald (Colm Ferore), Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins), The Handler (Kate Walsh) and, unfortunately, Harold Jenkins (John Magaro) will also likely return. There could be many more scenes with the young Hargreeves cast too.
Yes! Ritu Arya, Marin Ireland and Yusuf Gatewood are joining season 2 as Lila, Sissy and Raymond, respectively.
Lila is described as "a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires". She's also "unpredictable, mischievous" and "sarcastic" with a "twisted sense of humor".
Raymond is described as a "born leader and devoted husband" who has "the smarts, gravitas, and confidence to never have to prove it to anyone" (whatever that means!).
Sissy is described as a "fearless, no nonsense Texas Mom" who "married young for all the wrong reasons" and is "eager to rediscover what love has to offer".
The Umbrella Academy season 1 strayed away from the comics so it's likely that season 2 will do the same. The first series of the comics ended with the Hargreeves siblings saving the world instead of going back in time to undo the apocalypse so there is very little chance that it can follow the plot of the second volume of The Umbrella Academy comics: 'Dallas'.
In 'Dallas', Allison is still voiceless (after Vanya accidentally cut her throat) and is therefore powerless. However, seeing as the siblings have gone back in time, she will likely regain her voice and Ben is almost certainly alive again. It seems likely that the script will focus on the siblings helping Vanya control her powers to avoid the end of the world.
However, not even the cast know what's going to happen. Speaking to Den of Geek, Tom Hopper said: "With this show, that's a huge question 'cause we could go in so many different directions. And yeah, the time travel element is gonna be a huge one. Where we are and then what we do in that time period remains to be seen."
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, David Castañeda spoke about his upcoming story line and where he hopes his character will go.
"One of the best things about the show is how the characters arc, and it takes time to see people grow out of the traumas that they have," he said. "I’d like to see where Diego goes. He’s able to cope with a lot more things, but now he lost his mom, he lost Patch. He could either go completely insane off of it or he might just be a kid."
There will be 10 one-hour long episodes in season 2... same as season one.
