Will Hulu renew The Act for a second season? Michelle Dean opens up about season 2...
The Act co-creator Michelle Dean has opened up about her plans for season 2 of the Gypsy Rose Blanchard series on Hulu.
Ever since The Act debuted on Hulu this March, it's received huge praise from fans and critics alike. People are transfixed by Joey King and Patricia Arquette's portrayals of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee. Gypsy became the focus of international news attention in 2015 when it was reported that she had killed her mom, after she forced to use a wheelchair and pretend to suffer from multiple severe illnesses for years.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is pursuing legal action against Hulu over The Act
Now, Michelle Dean has discussed whether there will be a second season of The Act and what it's going to be about.
Talking to Esquire about The Act season 2, Dean revealed: "There's no Season Two right now, in the sense that Hulu has not picked it up." She then added: "We're still in post-production, so I think we're focused on getting this story out to the public, and we'll think about it."
Given the success of season 1, it seems likely that Hulu will want to renew The Act. However, the second season will likely focus on a new story.
Discussing her hopes for season 2, Dean said: "The Act was designed as an anthology: obviously the title refers to a couple things. Obviously the act of the crime, but also the act that Dee Dee and Gypsy were putting on for the public. If there were a Season Two, those are the stories that we would be interested in telling."
In other words, Hulu would find a different true crime story for season 2 and the cast would play completely new characters.
Seeing as Hulu are yet to confirm whether or not there will be a second season of The Act, there is still no confirmation as to who will be in it. Plus, seeing as it's meant to be an anthology series, there could be many new cast members. Like some other anthology series however, the show could keep its main cast - Joey King, Patricia Arquette, AnnaSophia Robb, Chlöe Sevigny and Calum Worthy - if they're available.
Given the numerous high profile projects that all of the show's cast are involved in, there is are a chance that there could be quite a significant gap between The Act seasons 1 and 2. Also Joey and Patricia might take on less central roles. Similar to other successful anthology shows like American Crime Story, the series may not return for up to two years if it is renewed.
We will update you as soon as anything is confirmed.
