Netflix Has Cancelled ANOTHER Show After One Season

The show aired its first episode in February 2018.

Yet another Netflix show has been cancelled after only one season, two months after the first episode aired.

Viewers who are into crime dramas might have come across Seven Seconds, the Netflix series created by Veena Sud (The Killing) and starring Emmy winner Regina King. The show had its debut on February 23rd, and followed those involved in investigating the death of a young black boy and his family as they dealt with the loss.

It appears that the show did not generate enough interest for Netflix, as the streaming platform has decided not to renew the show for a second season.

“We loved working with Veena, Regina and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix, in a statement. “Together they created a compelling, timely and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come.”

Seven Seconds is the latest in a string of cancellations of Netflix shows. Less than two weeks ago, Netflix also announced it was cancelling Everything Sucks! after only one season. Before that, Gypsy and Sense 8 were also axed by the network.

Fans and the cast have been sharing messages on social media about the cancellation. Much like Everything Sucks!, Seven Seconds featured a diverse and inclusive set of characters and some people feel Netflix is missing an opportunity to back shows with a greater representation of minorities. This is an area where mainstream television (and film) are still lagging behind.
