Scream 5 cast, release date, trailer and everything you need to know about the Sidney Prescott slasher.
Scream is officially back. A fifth film in the beloved 90s horror franchise has been greenlit and it's already in early production.
Ever since Scream 4 came out in 2011, fans have been desperate to see another instalment in the iconic slasher series. MTV adapted the movies into a TV show in 2015 with a whole new cast but a fifth Scream film never materialised. Then in August 2015, Wes Craven, who directed Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 3, tragically passed away at the age of 76. Following his death, it seemed unlikely that scream queen legend Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) would return to our screens.

However, the tide has now turned and Scream fans can rest assured that Scream 5 is genuinely happening.
Yesterday (Nov 7), Deadline confirmed that Scream 5 is now "in the works at Spyglass". Spyglass "picked up the Dimension library after joining forces with Lantern Entertainment in March" this year. As it stands, almost all details about the new film are currently being kept under wraps. In other words, we don't know who will be taking on Wes' directorial reigns and it's unclear if Kevin Williamson will return to write it.
With that in mind, information surrounding the cast is also top secret for now. So whether or not Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott is sadly yet to be seen. That being said, seeing as Sidney survived Scream 4, there's potential for her to be stalked by another masked serial killer in Scream 5. It also seems likely that Courtney Cox and David Arquette could return as Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley.
Whether or not Scream 5 will be a sequel, prequel or reboot is yet to be seen. Spyglass are also yet to announce any release date for the project but we imagine it won't be long before we find out more. We shall keep you informed with any updates.
