Get to know all the new stars of the latest Netflix original series Sex Education.
Netflix's Sex Education season 3 is finally here and once again, we're not sure the world is ready for the outrageous antics that go down at Moordale High. Sex Education is Netflix's first original UK teen series and the show is chock full of fresh faces (and a couple of seasoned vets too), so here's a guide of who's who in Sex Education, including Otis, Maeve, Eric, Aimee and Adam. Asa Butterfield plays the lead role of Otis in Sex Education. Asa might only be 24 years old but he has been acting for over a decade in movies and TV shows including the critically-acclaimed 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas', Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo' and 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'. Asa's height is 1.83m and net worth is estimated at $5 million. [Netflix]
Maeve, the mastermind behind the sex clinic, is played by Emma Mackey. This is Emma's first big role, having only a fewprior credits to her name. In 2020, she's set to star in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of 'Death on The Nile' alongside Annette Bening, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer and Letitia Wright. [Netflix]
Otis' loveable best friend is played by Scottish-Rwandan actor Ncuti Gatwa. Ncuti has appeared in several theatre productions including A Midsummer Night's Dream at The Globe, as well as small roles in a couple of TV series. Ncuti is set to star in 'The Last Letter from Your Lover', alongside Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley and Joe Alwyn. [Netflix]
Otis' sex therapist mum, Jean, is played by British acting legend Gillian Anderson. Gillian made her name as Agent Dana Scully in the iconic 90s thriller TV show 'The X Files'. The Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actress has also starred in 2008's 'How To Lose Friends & Alienate People', 2018's 'The Spy Who Dumped Me', drama series 'The Fall' as Stella Gibson and NBC's 'Hannibal' as Bedelia du Maurier. Aimee, Moordale's all-rounder, is played by Aimee Lou Wood. Aimee studied at RADA in London and graduated in 2017. This is her first on-screen role. [Netflix]
23-year-old Connor Swindells plays the well-endowed Adam in Sex Education. Connor starred as the lead in UK rap battle scene film 'VS.' and starred opposite Gerard Butler in 'Keepers'. [Netflix]
Jackson, Moordale's star swimmer and Maeve's ex-boyfriend is played by Kedar Williams-Stirling. Kedar is one of the more experienced screen actors on the show, having earned many credits on British TV shows such as The Bill, Doctors, Silent Witness and Wolfblood. He is 24-years-old. [Netflix]
Ola Nyman plays Patricia, Otis' girlfriend and daughter of Jakob. Patricia has previously starred in Les Misérables on the BBC and multiple theatre productions. [Netflix]
Tanya Reynolds takes on the role of Lily in Sex Education, a student at Moordale who draws erotic comics. Tanya has starred in several TV shows such as The Bisexual, Delicious, and Death in Paradise. [Netflix]
Sami Outalbali played the new French student Rahim in Sex Education season 2. Sami is a French actor and has appeared several French productions including 'Grown Ups' as Ilyes. [Netflix]
The Queen Bee of the Untouchables is Ruby, who is played by British actress Mimi Keene. British viewers will recognise Mimi from her role in Eastenders as Cindy Beale's daughter, Cindy Williams. She left the show in 2015. Mimi also appeared in BBC drama 'Our Girl' as Jade and 2019's 'Tolkien' as Young Edith Bratt. [Netflix]
Olivia is one of Ruby's best friends alongside Anwar. Olivia is played by British actress Simone Ashley, who also appeared in Broadchurch season 3 as Dana and had a small role in Detective Pikachu. [Netflix]
Jakob, Otis' dad and Jean's love interest, is played by Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt. Mikael has taken to the theatre stage in Sweden countless times, and has had a lot of on-screen roles under his belt. He also played Beorn in the two Hobbit films, as well as Kjartan in Guy Ritchie's 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword'. [Netflix]
Adam's dad and Principal of Moordale High is played by English actor Alistair Petrie. Alistair has starred in several productions including ’Sherlock’, ‘The Night Manager’, ‘Vera’ and ‘Deep State’. More recently, he appeared in 2019’s ‘Hellboy’ alongside David Harbour as Lord Adam Glaren and in ‘Rogue One’ as General Draven. [Netflix]
Cynthia is the owner of the caravan park where Maeve lives and is played by Welsh actress Lisa Palfrey. She's best known for playing Maureen in 'Pride' (2014) and Gwenny in 'House of America' (1997). [Netflix]
Chinenye Ezeudu stars as Viv in season 2, who is described as "a super intelligent, multi-talented academic student, who is anything but talented in love". This is Chinenye's first major on-screen role. She's also set to appear as Zoe Denmoor in The Stranger. [Netflix]
Joining the cast in season 2 is George Robinson as Isaac, a new resident in Maeve's caravan park who creates waves almost immediately. According to IMDb, this is George's first major on-screen role. [Netflix]
British actress Hannah Waddingham plays the role of Sofia, Jackson's mum and wife to Roz. Hannah is best known for her roles as Rebecca Welton in AppleTV+'s Ted Lasso and, if you're a Game of Thrones fan, you should recognise her from season 5 and 6 - she played the role of Septa Unella, who shouted "Shame!" at Cersei during her walk of atonement. Hannah has also appeared in British comedies 'Benidorm' and 'My Family' as well as 2008's 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate People'. [Netflix]
British acting star Anne-Marie Duff stars as Maeve's estranged mum Erin in season 2. Anne-Marie is most known for her roles in the UK version of Shameless Fiona Gallagher, The Virgin Queen (2006), Nowhere Boy (2009) and Suffragette (2015). [Netflix]
Otis' dad is played by British actor James Purefoy who is most known for his roles as Mark Antony in the HBO series Rome and as serial-killer Joe Carroll in the series The Following, alongside Kevin Bacon. [Netflix]
Dex, member of the Moordale quiz team, is new character for season 2 and is played by Lino Facioli. Some of you may recognise Lino from his role on Game of Thrones. He played Robin Arryn, son of Lysa Arryn and reappeared in one episode of the final season. He also previously played the role of Naples in Get Him to the Greek. [Netflix]
Colin Hendricks, Moordale's science teacher, is played by British actor Jim Howick. He appeared in 'Broadchurch' season 3, 'Inside No. 9', 'Peep Show' and has played various parts on 'Horrible Histories'. [Netflix]
English teacher Miss Sands is played by British actress Rakhee Thakrar, who UK viewers will instantly recognise from her previous role as Shabnam Masood in Eastenders. Rahkee also appeared as Fatima in Hulu's Four Weddings And A Funeral mini-series. [Netflix]
Samantha Spiro plays Maureen Groff in Sex Education. Maureen is Adam’s mother, and friend of Jean Milburn. Samantha’s previous credits include the role of Barbara Windsor in Babs, Call the Midwife, Plebs, Doc Martin, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones (as Melessa Tarly). Samatha also has a long list of theatre credits to her name. [Netflix]
Jason Isaacs joins the cast of Sex Education 3 as Peter Groff, Michael Groff’s older brother. Peter, who Michael stays with following his separation from Maureen, is very successful and not very modest. As a British acting legend, Jason has appeared in countless movies and TV shows but he is best known around the world as Lucius Malfoy, Draco’s father, in the Harry Potter film franchise. [Netflix]
Jemima Kirk plays Hope in Sex Education season 3. Hope is the new headmistress at Moordale Secondary who is set on repairing the reputation of her former school. Jemima is best known for her role as Jessa on HBO’s Girls. Elsewhere on TV, Jemima has starred in Netflix’s Maniac and is also set to appear in the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends. [Netflix]
Jojo Macari plays Kyle in Sex Education. Kyle is a student at Moordale. In season 3, he dubs himself the Sex King and dishes out sex advice to other students. Netflix viewers may also recognise Jojo from his roles as Billy in The Irregulars and as Mogwan in Netflix’s Cursed. Jojo has also appeared in Harlots, London Kills, Endeavour and Hard Sun. In 2020, he also appeared in the film Misbehaviour.
Dua Saleh plays Cal in Sex Education season 3. Cal is a non-binary student at Moordale who instantly becomes one of Hope’s targets due to their personal gender nonconforming dress code. Cal is the show’s first non-binary character. This is also Dua’s first acting role. The Minneapolis-based Sudanese-American artist is actually a musician. Dua themselves is also non-binary and uses they/xe pronouns. [Netflix]
Sophie Thompson plays Lily’s mum in Sex Education season 3. Season 3 is the first time we’re introduced to Lily’s mother, who is a nurse that helps Jean Milburn give birth. In the UK, Sophie is perhaps best known for her TV roles, including Eastenders. Globally, you’ll recognise her as Mafalda Hopkirk from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Sophie also recently appeared in Feel Good. [Netflix]
