The new Netflix series is nothing like 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch'...

Sabrina Spellman is back. The iconic tv character first graced our screens back in the 90s on the beloved hit sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch and now she's returned on Netflix's new teen drama Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The first reviews are in and CAOS is already receiving widespread praise. Critics are lauding the show for its feminist themes, gripping plot and incredible cast and characters (Susie, Ambrose, Nick).

However, there's one thing about CAOS that fans are divided over. The original iteration of Sabrina was a really light-hearted family show and CAOS is nothing of the sort. The series takes direct inspiration form the comics of the same name and it is dark af. Not only does it see Sabrina literally grapple with the pressure of signing her name over to the devil but there are also multiple terrifying moments.

Sleep demons? You bet. Horrifying visions? All included. Scenes that will give you nightmares? Of course. The show isn't for the faint of heart. For those who've been following the series since it was first announced, CAOS is everything it was teased as and more, but for those who've just stumbled across it on Netflix, hoping to experience some nostalgia, it may be a little bit of a shock to the system.

In fact, it's so scary that viewers have been taking to Twitter to express their shock and awe. Some fans of the 90s series are disappointed that it's nothing like the Sabrina they remember (Salem doesn't even talk) but others are excited that the show feels completely new while still maintaining some of the essence of Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Zelda and Hilda are similar just much, much darker).

Here are just a few of the reactions.

Considering that so many remakes play it safe, we think that it's great that Netflix have created a completely new series with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It feels fresh and slick and important.

Still we understand why old Sabrina the Teenage Witch fans may not enjoy it.

What do you think? Is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina too scary or is it just right?
