The trailer for The Lion King arrived and fans are reacting to the new appearance of Scar, who is voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The full trailer for the upcoming Lion King remake arrived this week and fans are reacting to the preview for the star-studded film. Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, and Shahadi Wright Joseph star, with Chiwetel Ejiofor as the voice of Scar in the Jon Favrau directed movie.
Fans who grew up with the original Lion King will notice major differences in the CGI photorealistic animation, as well as some noticeable parallels between the new and old film. One such difference is the portrayal of Scar, the usurper and main antagonist in The Lion King.
Lion King fans are noticing that the new Scar is not quite the same Scar from their childhoods, highlighting how the different style of animation has impacted the entire vibe of the villain.
I'm all for the lion king remake, (mostly because of Donald Glover), but these two pictures highlight how having live action cartoon characters restricts the portrayal of emotion, I mean just look at the picture of scar in the original photo compared to the new one #TheLionKing pic.twitter.com/aFpREnNzY3

In the original Lion King film, much of the drama and emotion comes from the characters' expressions and exaggerated movements. The style of photo realistic animation chosen for the remake has fans convinced the new Scar will be toned down in comparison to what he was like in the 1994 film.
Tbh the new Lion King trailer just looks so devoid of personality. In the Jungle Book the animals had some unique traits in their designs, here they just look so generic. I barely recognized Zazu and mistook Scar for Mufasa for fuck's sake.

For me personally, so much of why Lion King rocks is the life thats put into the animals through body language and especially faces. The animated Scar face in this slide in particular has stuck with me for years. You feel the venom and seriousness of him telling Simba to run. pic.twitter.com/BEhdme4aRx

So I haven't seen the Lion King trailer yet but I got curious as to what Scar looks like and. What the fuck. They stripped all the personality from his original design pic.twitter.com/kvoAxLqvlo

I've seen the Lion King trailer. Shit is pure Mufasa propaganda. They had Scar looking dry and malnutritioned, like that man wasn't a bad bitch in the animated movie.

the new lion king looks great but i don’t think scar is achieving the levels of lgbt icon he served in the original

So they couldn't cast a darkskin lion for Scar? I'm tired of Hollywood and their obsession with Euro-lion features pic.twitter.com/VSTaz3FN6B

For many, The Lion King was a childhood staple and the new Scar might be just a tad bit jarring. With that in mind, I'll see you all at the movies on July 19, 2019 when The Lion King hits theatres.
