If that weren't exciting enough, Gossip Girl showrunner Joshua Safran has tweeted that the new series is "very, very queer". When a fan tweeted: "how much homoeroticism can i expect from it?", Josh responded: "Well, considering we have many queer characters, a lot?" He also said that he's most proud of "the majority of characters being diverse and/or queer."

Zión Moreno, one of the lead actresses, is trans and has already played an openly trans character in Control Z on Netflix.

As for the storylines, Joshua says that they are "completely new." He continued: "I would never want to step on what we've already done, nor do I want to cheapen the new characters relationships by making them seem like echoes!"

He also tweeted: "I really wanted this to feel like an extension and in no way a reboot. So it's an evolution of the story, not a retread. That said, there are echoes. Constance and St. Judes are still Constance and St. Judes, after all."

That doesn't mean that original characters won't return though. When asked if there will be "guest stars/performers", Joshua teased: "We hope so!"

The new Gossip Girl is set to debut in HBO Max in 2021 with Kristen Bell reprising her role as the narrator! We can't wait.
