The 'Kiss You' stars say they are "really happy" with how work on their third record is progressing.
One Direction have already started work on their third album and band member Louis Tomlinson has promised it will be out before Christmas this year.
The 'Little Things' singer revealed some of the first details about the boy band's next record, admitting they have been writing and laying down vocals while out on tour over the past two months.
"We've already started recording the album, we started about a month ago," band member Louis Tomlinson revealed to the Daily Star. "We've been writing and recording it while on tour.
"We are really happy with it," he explained. "We don't want to rush it but it will be out for Christmas.
The 'Live While We're Young' singer went on to say that between work on the new album, their ongoing 'Take Me Home' world tour and their upcoming 3D concert movie, the band are stretched pretty thin.
"We have the film coming out as well so we are all pretty shattered but we are all having a great time," he explained. "We have had a week off this week before heading to Europe for the tour."

The UK band have previously released two albums, their 2011 debut 'Up All Night' and last year's second release 'Take Me Home'.
One Direction are set to release their 3D concert movie This Is Us on 29th August.
