Netflix has officially renewed The Politician for a second season and here's what we know about it.
WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MILD THE POLITICIAN SEASON 1 SPOILERS
The Politician season 2 is coming to Netflix and we couldn't be more excited to find out what's next for our favourite series.
Ever since Netflix announced that it would be teaming up with Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan to release a new comedy/drama called The Politician starring Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrowx and Jessica Lange, we've been desperate to see it. Season 1 revolves around wealthy teen and aspiring politician Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), as he runs for class president and does everything he possibly can to win. It's brilliant, it's ridiculous, it's hilarious and quite frankly we're obsessed with it.

What about season 2 though? Here's everything you need to know about it including the release date, cast, trailer, theories, spoilers, news and more.
Way back when Netflix confirmed that it would be releasing The Politician in 2018, Deadline revealed that the new series had "received a two-season straight-to-series order". In other words, The Politician was renewed by Netflix for a second season before it was even made, similar to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
As for when we can expect season 2, it's currently unclear but Netflix tend to operate on annual cycles, so our guess is that we'll be watching The Politician season 2 in September or October 2020. And, if it's anything like the first season, there will be eight new episodes for us to enjoy.
Given that season 2 looks set to kick off where season 1 ended, it seems likely that most fan-favourites will return. Ben Platt (Payton) will continue to lead the series. Meanwhile, other key characters Theo Germaine (James), Laura Dreyfuss (McAfee), Julia Shclaepfer (Alice), Lucy Boynton (Astrid), Rahne Jones (Skye), Zoey Deutch (Infinity) and David Corenswet (River) will likely reprise their roles.
Seeing as the series will move to New York and no longer be set in high school it's unclear if Jessica Lange (Dusty), January Jones (Lizbeth), Dylan McDermott (Theo), Benjamin Barrett (Ricardo), Bob Balaban (Keaton), Gwyneth Paltrow (Georgina), Trevor Eason (Martin), Trey Eason (Luther), Martina Navratilova (Brigitte) and Ryan J. Haddad (Andrew) will return.
However, we do know that Judith Light (Dede), Bette Midler (Hadassah), Joe Morton (Marcus), Teddy Sears (William) and Sam Jaeger (Tino) will all be taking centre stage in the new season. Barbra Streisand has also been cast in a currently unnamed role.
Every season of The Politician will focus on a different election Payton Hobart is involved in. Season 2 will see Payton Hobart challenge Dede Standish to become the majority leader of the New York state senate. Something tells us that it will be even messier than season 1 and we cannot wait.
As it stands, there is no trailer for The Politician season 2 but we shall update you as soon as there is.
