Netflix is dropping FIVE original horror movies in time for Halloween

In The Shadow Of The Moon, In The Tall Grass, Fractured, Eli and Rattlesnake are all coming to the streaming service in October.

The temperature is dropping, the sun is setting at an earlier time, the leaves are starting to crisp, pictures of Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice are starting to flood your timelines... it can only mean one thing: Halloween is coming.

Yes, babyyyyy. Spooky season is upon us and our Lord and Saviour Netflix has risen to the occasion to accommodate our horror movie needs.

The streaming service has just released their Halloween and Horror schedule (called "Netflix and Chills") and, starting now, they'll be dropping something new every week leading up to October 31st. Those new drops include new series, returning series and five original horror/thriller movies.

Here are the best Halloween horror movies on Netflix in October 2019:

Marianne (Netflix original series) - released on September 13th (Watch the trailer here)

Marianne is already being labelled Netflix's "scariest" show. The French horror series follows Emma, a writer who writes books based on her nightmares about a witch...which are coming true. When she returns to her hometown, that witch is real and now exists in the real world.

In the Shadow of the Moon - released on September 27th (Watch the trailer here)

For people of the sci-fi thriller persuasion, In the Shadow of the Moon is set in 1988 and follows a Philadelphia detective who slowly unravels as he deals with his obsession with an enigmatic female serial killer who returns every nine years." This one is more gory than it is jumpy.

In the Tall Grass - released on October 4th

A film based on Stephen King and his son Joe Hill's novella? Now we're talking. The film's synopsis reads: "After hearing a boy's cry for help, a pregnant woman (Becky) and her brother (Cal) wade into a vast field of grass, only to discover there may be no way out." And of course, there's some pretty terrifying things lurking in the grass too...

Haunted: Season 2 (Netflix original series) - released on October 11th

If you managed to catch the first season of Haunted, you'll know exactly how terrifying the show actually is. Basically, real life horror stories are reenacted by actors and brought to life on screen. Netflix has described the show as 'real people, real stories, real horror' but some have accused Haunted of being fake. Season one's 'Slaughterhouse' episode was all anyone could talk about for weeks and now it's returning for another season.

Fractured - released on October 11th

Starring American Horror Story's Lily Rabe and Sam Worthington, Fractured follows the story of Ray, whose daughter is taken to hospital after breaking her arm. Following a long stay, Ray falls asleep in the lobby while his daughter is taken for an MRI. When he wakes up, he finds out that his wife and daughter have vanished and there is no record or knowledge of them ever being checked into the hospital.

Eli - released on October 18th

Eli focuses on a boy (called Eli, duh) who is living with a mysterious illness that means he has to live completely sealed off from the rest of the world. His parents soon find a doctor who thinks she can help but the treatment ends up leaving Eli with terrifying nightmares and experiences. Stranger Things' Sadie Sink stars in this one, alongside Charlie Shotwell, Kelly Reilly and Lili Taylor.

Daybreak (Netflix original series) - released on October 24th

Daybreak follows the story of 17-year-old high school outcast, Josh, searching for his missing girlfriend, Sam, in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a pyromaniac 12-year-old and his former high school bully, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors, zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.

Rattlesnake - released on October 25

Rattlesnake is a psychological horror movie that follows Katrina, a single mother driving cross country to start a new life with Clara, her daughter. Things take a turn for the worst when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and Clara gets bit by a rattlesnake. Katrina accepts help from a strange woman but soon finds out that she has to kill a stranger in exchange for the life that was saved.

Of course, Netflix are also adding a bunch of fresh horror movies to the archives too. If you type “Netflix and Chills” into the search bar and you’ll find a ton of new movies to watch this Halloween.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Scream 2 and Sinister 2 are all coming to the streaming service, as well as American Horror Story: Apocalypse.
