Yeah, this moment was definitely a highlight of the season.
13 Reasons Why fans hoped that Bryce would get his just desserts in season 2. Unfortunately, the light sentence of 3 months probation just didn't cut it. Even Justin Prentice, who plays Bryce, admitted that his character's ending actually pissed him off a bit. One scene that didn't piss him off, however, was probably the Bryce scene that actually made you smile, too.
This season, fans were introduced to Bryce's largely absentee parents. While his father hired the best lawyers and pulled strings to shield Bryce from taking responsibility, Bryce's mother had the sense to realise her son was basically becoming a menace to society.
In an interview with Vulture, Bryce revealed that one of his favourite scenes to shoot was the one where Bryce gets slapped by the formidable Mrs. Walker.
"One of my favorite scenes was actually with his mom, Brenda Strong, the scene where she slaps me," he told the publication.
"You get to see this unique moment where he snaps and drops all sense of façade. He really shows the monster that he is, or the monstrous side of him."
The slap wasn't a one take job, though. Justin says the slap heard round the world was actually one of a few takes.
"I think we did a few more takes than necessary just because the crew enjoyed watching it so much. “Yes, Bryce getting slapped! Let’s shoot this scene all day long!”
Who doesn't love a good soap opera slap moment? We can totally see why Justin loved this scene. After two seasons of shenanigans, the audience definitely wanted needed to see someone stand up to Bryce.
