The boy band's hit featured in a montage segment paying tribute to Jimmy Kimmel.
One Direction's hit single 'What Makes You Beautiful' was covered during a surprise performance by US singer Josh Groban at the Emmy Awards 2012 last night (23rd September).
The 64th Primetime Emmys took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
"I think it's a shame that we wait to do this until after our legends pass," said Jimmy as he spoke about paying tribute to the actors who had passed away over the past twelve months.
"It's important to celebrate the living too, so tonight I'd like you to join me in paying tribute to the life and work of someone all of us, someone every person in this room admires, respects and loves."
He then made way for the screens to show a montage of himself with Josh at the piano to deliver the rendition of the boy band's hit.

Several clips featuring Oprah Winfrey in a bath and US President Obama were included as the track also apologised to Matt Damon – a reference from a skit on the host's own chat show.
The big winners on the night were drama series Homeland and Modern Family.
