You season 4 part 2 may have only just come out but fans are already eager to know if You will be returning for a season 5.

Every season of You takes Joe Goldberg to a brand new location. In season 1, we saw him stalk Beck in New York. Joe then moved to LA in season 2 where he became obsessed with Love. Season 3 changed things up by seeing Joe and Love take on suburbia and now, in season 4, Joe has run away from his former life by relocating to London under a new identity.

You is so popular that season 4 has been split into two parts and everyone is eager to see more of their favourite fictional serial killer going forward. With that in mind, here's every single thing we know so far about You season 5, including the release date, cast, trailer, spoilers, and news about whether or not it will be the final season of the show.

Will there be a You season 5 on Netflix?

Shortly after You season 4, Part 2 came out, Netflix took to Twitter to confirm that the hit show is coming back for one more season. They tweeted: "Joe Goldberg will return for the fifth and ~final~ season of YOU in 2024." This means that You season 5 will be the last time that Joe appears on our screens.

Discussing the future of the show on the Happy Sad Confused podcast ahead of the announcement, Penn said: "I signed a six-year contract right out the gate. So they could do two more if they wanted. I think if there’s another season, I think it’s only going to be one."

When is the You season 5 release date?

In their announcement, Netflix said that we can expect You season 5 in 2024. However, the release might be affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

As of July 2023, actors are now on strike following a breakdown in negotiations with studios and production companies to secure fairer pay, better working conditions and safeguards against unauthorised use of their likeness through artificial intelligence.

The WGA (Writers Guild of America) have also been on strike since May 2023 for similar reasons.

It's currently unclear if You season 5 will be split into two parts like season 4 or not.

Who will be in the You season 5 cast?

As you already know, the You cast tends to change a lot from season to season with the only constant being Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg. Occasionally characters stick around for more but that all depends on whether or not they survive. Here are the suriving You season 4 characters that could appear in season 5.

  • Penn Badgley - Joe Goldberg
  • Tati Gabrielle - Marienne Bellamy
  • Charlotte Ritchie - Kate
  • Tilly Keeper - Lady Phoebe
  • Amy-Leigh Hickman - Nadia
  • Niccy Lin - Sophie
  • Ben Wiggins - Roald Walker-Burton
  • Ozioma Whenu - Blessing

With Malcolm (Stephen Hagan), Simon (Aidan Cheng), Gemma (Eve Austin), Adam (Lukas Gage) and Rhys (Ed Speelers) all dead now. It seems unlikely that any of them will return in season 5. Nonetheless, pretty much anything is possible in the world of You. Rhys could always return in Joe's hallucinations.

It's also possible that characters from past You seasons will return to the show in season 5. Ellie (Jenna Ortega) is still alive, as is Paco (Luca Padovan). Could either of them make a comeback?

Sera Gamble recently told IndieWire that Jenna was meant to be in season 4 but had filming conflicts. Sera teased: "We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again."

Jenna also told Entertainment Tonight that she was "so devastated" that she couldn't be part of season 4.

What will happen in You season 5?

You season 4 ends with Joe getting away with his crimes and still in a relationship with Kate. Not only that but Kate actually helps Joe to cover up his past antics. In a televised interview, he claims that he had to fake his death following an abusive relationship with Love. It's unclear exactly how much of Joe's past Kate is aware of though.

In an episode of PodCrushed, Penn's co-host Nava Kavelin discusses how Joe is inspired by Rhys Montrose in season 4 and asks Penn: "Is Joe gonna run for political office in season 5?" Appearing to confirm Nava's theory, Penn responds: "Yeah…I can’t say. I don’t know but it certainly is interesting and tracks."

Joe going into politics? Sounds messy. Not to mention, with Nadia, Marienne and Ellie still aware of what Joe is actually capable of, it's possible that one or all of them will try to expose his killings in season 5.

You author Caroline Kepnes is also releasing a new novel from Joe's point of view, For You and Only You on April 25, 2023, so there's a chance that season 5 will take inspiration from that.

Where will You season 5 be set?

There is no information just yet on where You season 5 will be set if it gets renewed but with Joe back in New York at the end of season 4, we imagine that the show will go full circle and be set in New York again.

Is there a You season 5 trailer yet?

There isn't a You season 5 trailer right now but we shall update you as soon as there is one.
