Netflix viewers believe that Joe's neighbour in You season 2 is his mum.
Penn Badgley has responded to the theory that Joe's neighbour in You season 2 is his mum and his answer may shock you.
As soon as You season 2 aired on Netflix last month (Dec 26), fans immediately began coming up with theories about the hit series. First things first, people are convinced that Love poisoned her dead husband James, then there are those who think that Joe isn't even the father of Love's baby and, last but not least, viewers reckon that Joe's new neighbour is his mum.

Unfortunately, we will have to wait until You season 3 drops to find out if most of these theories are true. However, Penn has now revealed if Joe's new neighbour is actually his mother in an interview and hinted at what's next for Joe in season 3.
You season 2 ends with Joe and Love moving out to the suburbs of LA to raise their daughter (!). Joe seems excited to start a family and ready to finally settle down but he then notices his neighbour reading books in her garden. Staring through his fence, he says: "This is just the beginning. Because this is where I had to be exactly where I had to be to meet You."
He then continues: "There you were with your books and your sunshine, so close but worlds away. I will figure out a way. A way to get to you. See you soon, neighbour.” Fans immediately started speculating that Joe had tracked down his mother after all the flashbacks in season 2 and that season 3 may focus on him obsessing over her in a non romantic way.
However, we now have confirmation that that theory is not true. Speaking to Bustle, Penn immediately shut down rumours that Joe's new neighbour is his mother. He said: "She's definitely not his mum. I can say that."
In other words, it's back to the drawing board. Is she related to Beck? Is she Dr. Nicky's wife? Is she someone new? Only time will tell.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight about Joe's future in season 3, Penn previously said: "What does Joe need? Joe needs, ugh, Joe needs justice, but what does that mean? Does that mean prison? Does that mean death? I don't know." You creator Sera Gamble also told the Hollywood Reporter: "I can say things won't go well for Joe [in season 3]."
