How will Supernatural end? Jared Padalecki has a theory about Sam and Dean dying once and for all.
With the sad news that Supernatural is coming to an end in May 2020 after 15 seasons, fans have been wondering how the series will wrap up and say goodbye to the Winchester brothers.
Would Sam and Dean just drive off into the sunset? Will they retire from hunting and live happily ever after? Would they both end up in hell on a cliffhanger? Would they... die? For real? And not get resurrected?
Supernatural's Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki explain why the show was cancelled
Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins have all been out and about sharing their thoughts and theories about how the long-running series will come to an end but it's Jared's suggestion that has got us all a bit shook. While no one knows how the final season will conclude yet, Jared thinks the only way to end it is with Sam and Dean's actual death.
Jared shared this thoughts in an interview with TV Guide and you know what, he has a point...
“If they die – I don’t know, I don’t think it’s written yet – but if they do die, I want them to die going out doing something they love that will make the world a better place,” Jared said. “Part of me thinks that’s the only way to end Supernatural. Because if the boys were alive, they’d be hunting, and if they’re hunting, I want to see them hunting. Maybe that’s the way it goes, I don’t know.”
Misha even backed that idea, saying: "I hate to say this but I kind of hope that the main characters on the show die at the end. I feel like we need that finality."
But he continued, saying that he'd much rather see a happier ending for Sam and Dean.
“I want Season 15 to be a great season, obviously. It’s our last season. But I want it to feel like it’s gonna go on,” he said. “I don’t want Sam to feel like it’s the ending. I want Sam to feel like he’s still making a difference, that he’s still helping other people. And so, I don’t want it to feel like doom and gloom, too much…I want Sam to still fight, to keep fighting and keep supporting his brother and his friends and his family.”
In a different interview with E! News, Jensen also weighed in on how the series will end.
"I think whatever it is, it's got to be the brothers together. That's been the core of this show since the beginning. I think it's really what the fans want to see. I think regardless of who comes knockin', I think whatever is done it's about these two brothers and their journey. I think that's really where the heart of the show should reside."
