It looks like Netflix are finally about to start work on the second TATBILB film with John Ambrose McClaren...
It goes without saying that To All the Boys I've Loved Before is one of the standout films of 2018. Ever since the hit rom-com came out on Netflix in August it has become a bit of a phenomenon. Fans can't get enough of its adorable storyline (you had us at love letters), brilliant characters (Kitty is an icon) and talented cast (Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are superstars in the making). The entire movie slaps.
QUIZ: Which 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before' boy would date you?
Now, it appears that our prayers are finally being answered. Readers of the TATBILB book will already know that it is part of a Lara Jean trilogy written by young adult fiction queen Jenny Han. P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean are both as great as TATBILB. We've all been hoping for a film sequel for months and it looks like we finally have some evidence that it's coming.
THR is reporting that Paramount have struck up a huge deal with Netflix and "one of the first movies being discussed" is the highly anticipated potential TATBILB sequel. Not only that but the first film's director Susan Johnson seemed to confirm that it is definitely going ahead by writing: “Well, the cat’s out of the bag! Thanks for the support, everyone!!! It’s all you!” in a now deleted Instagram post.
In other words, we're almost definitely going to get some more Lara Jean and Peter K in our lives. However, it looks like the sequel may end up being a bit different to the books. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Susan revealed that she plans for it to "borrow from the third book". Seeing as the first film borrowed from the second, a third TATBILB movie now seems unlikely.
While it may come as a disappointment to fans that we may be only getting one more TATBILB film, it makes lots of sense considering how in demand both Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are now. Lana is currently is about to star in the action thriller Deadly Class and Noah is lined up to star in the new Charlie's Angels reboot. It is better they focus on one great film than rush two.
If the film stays true to the books, there is going to be trouble in paradise for Lara Jean and Peter K. The two of them get caught in an ongoing love triangle with the one and only John Ambrose McClaren (you may remember him from the end of the first movie), then there's university and the possibility of them being separated. Interfering parents also have a big role to play in Peter K and Lara Jean's next chapter.
If you're too impatient and need to find out every single detail about the sequel you can check out our 'To all the Boys I've Loved Before' trilogy breakdown or better yet read the books. We cannot wait to see how Netflix, Paramount and Susan adapt the rest of Lara Jean's story.
