Netflix's new film Extremely Wicked barely touches on Rose Bundy...
The true story of serial killer Ted Bundy's daughter Rose Bundy is left out of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
Elizabeth Kloepfer reveals how she feels about the Ted Bundy film Extremely Wicked
Ever since Netflix released their brand new, true crime thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile about Ted Bundy on Friday (May 3), viewers haven't been able to stop talking about it. The film starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins is based on Ted Bundy's former girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer's autobiography about falling in love with him and finding out about his crimes. The film refers to Ted Bundy's real life daughter Rose Bundy but it never actually explains what happened to her.
The movie depicts many events which happened in real life. It shows Liz leaving Ted as the accusations against him become harder and harder to ignore. It then shows him reconnecting with an old friend of his called Carole Ann Boone. Carole visited Ted in prison, and supported him, under the impression that he was actually innocent. She also moved to Florida in order to be closer to him. Ted later proposed to Carole and she became pregnant with his baby after a conjugal visit.
In the film, this happens before Ted was sentenced to death row but in real life it happened afterwards. Carole actually gave birth to Rose in 1981. Originally Carole would take Rose to see her father in prison but in 1986, Carole chose to divorce Ted three years before he was executed. Carole then moved out of Florida and changed both her and Rose's names in order to avoid media scrutiny and protect Rose.
It's currently unclear where Rose lives or what name she uses. Now, 37-years-old, it's understandable why she would want to avoid any association with Ted Bundy and keep out of the spotlight. Author Ann Rule, who worked with Ted Bundy in real life and wrote the true crime novel The Stranger Beside Me about Ted, has written about her in an updated version of her book though.
Ann wrote: "I have heard that Ted’s daughter is a kind and intelligent young woman, but I have no idea where she and her mother may live. They have been through enough pain." She explained this further on her website: “I have deliberately avoided knowing anything about Ted’s ex-wife and daughter’s whereabouts because they deserve privacy."
She finished her statement by writing: "I never want to be caught off guard by some reporter’s question about them. All I know is that Ted’s daughter has grown up to be a fine young woman.”
