Is Natalie Portman in Avengers: Endgame? Fans think Thor’s Jane Foster is set to return

Portman hasn't appeared in the MCU since 2013 but her appearance on the red carpet might hint at a return for Thor's Dr Jane Foster.

Natalie Portman’s appearance at the Avengers: Endgame world premiere in Los Angeles has sparked a ton of theories about whether or not Jane Foster is about to return to the MCU.

Portman's Jane hasn't actually appeared in the MCU since Thor: The Dark World in 2013. Her absence was explained via an off hand comment in Thor: Ragnarok that revealed she and Thor had broken up prior to the events of the third film. She was never given a send off either.

Speaking about her future in the MCU back in 2016, Natalie Portman told Wall Street Journal: “As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an Avengers 7 or whatever, I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done.”

So, while Portman said she was “done,” her comments certainly suggested that she was leaving the door open for a potential return in the future. But after her appearance on the red carpet, will she actually be in Endgame after all?

After the release of Infinity War, the Russo Brothers revealed the fates of several other characters in the MCU. In an interview with the Huffington Post, the directors reeled off a list of 10 characters who either died off screen, survived the snap and those whose fates were too spoiler-y to reveal.

When asked about the fate of Jane Foster, Anthony Russo replied: “Spoiler.” Joe Russo followed up by saying: “When we say spoiler we mean potential spoiler.”

So, if revealing her status could be considered a "potential spoiler,” there must be a strong chance she might actually end up being reunited with Thor in the future, right? It's a definite possibility...

Well, considering that the film is set to follow the Avengers on their quest to get the Infinity stones back and stop Thanos from collecting them all, Jane’s connection to the Reality Stone could play a huge role.

In Thor: Dark World, Jane stumbles across Aether (which is actually the Reality Stone) and it uses her body as a host. After the stone takes a toll on Jane's health, Thor takes her to Asgard where she is saved but the stone is taken back by Malekith. Eventually, the Reality Stone ends up with The Collector who, of course, loses it Thanos in Infinity War.

Given that Endgame is set to feature a lot of time travel, will Thor take a trip back in time and to get Aether/Reality Stone from Jane before it ever ends up back in the hands of Malekith? Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Avengers: Endgame is released in cinemas on April 26th.
