Turns Out, Groot Actually Died In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

Director James Gunn confirmed on Twitter that Baby Groot is the first Groot's son and people are getting seriously emotional.

Distressing news for all Marvel fans emerged today as Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed that one of the movie's best-loved characters died during the movie - and you probably didn't even realise.

Gunn was responding to fans on Twitter when he revealed that Groot, the kind-hearted tree of few words, didn't just become smaller for the sequel, he was actually killed off!

Yep, you read that correctly!

Turns out the Baby Groot seen in GOTG2 is not just the smaller version of the Groot we know and love but his son. This certainly explains why he seems to have forgotten everything about the first film in the sequel but still, we can't believe we never realised they were totally different trees.

Fans have been mourning the loss of this gentle giant on social media:

Although, tbf, apparently this info has been around for a while. We just didn't notice.

Baby Groot will next be seen in Avengers: Infinity War which hits cinemas this May. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3 is expected to follow in 2019.
