Watch Netflix’s Blonde trailer
In Netflix's Blonde, Marilyn Monroe has a three-way relationship with Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Edward G Robinson Jr. but is it a true story?
Netflix's Blonde is being criticised over its scenes involving Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Edward G Robinson Jr.
Ever since Netflix's Blonde came out last week (Sep 28), viewers have called out the film for its graphic sex scenes and huge inaccuracies. Based on the 2000 book of the same name, Blonde is a biographical drama about Marilyn Monroe. However, the majority of the film is made up and fans of the beloved star have called the film "exploitative" and "dehumanising".

In Blonde, Marilyn Monroe also has a three-way relationship with Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Edward G Robinson Jr. The movie shows Marilyn, Charlie and Edward having a threesome together. There is also a scene in which Charlie and Edward both perform sexual acts on Marilyn in a cinema together. Did any of it really happen though? Was the relationship real?
Early on in Blonde, it's suggested that Marilyn Monroe had a three-way relationship with the sons of Hollywood stars Charlie Chaplin and Edward G Robinson. The movie even shows Marilyn having a threesome with Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Edward G Robinson Jr. However, there's no actual evidence to suggest that the three of them ever had such a relationship.
Anthony Summers's biography Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe claims that Marilyn and Charlie did date each other. He also claims that Marilyn met Edward through Charlie and later had a short-lived relationship with him. That being said, the two relationships never crossed over and it's very unlikely that the trio ever had a threesome.
Reacting to the threesome, one person tweeted: "As soon as that threesome scene came on I just stopped watching. If it was fictional there was no need to attach the name of an icon like Marilyn to this film. The fact that none of the creators realized this was complete exploitation of her name is unreal to me".
Another person added: "This Marilyn Monroe movie is wild because how can you make up a whole rape, abortion, and threesome."

Marilyn Monroe was not in a threesome relationship, y'all. Please keep in mind this book & movie are partly fictional. #Blonde #BlondeNetflix #BlondeOnNetflix

I hate Blonde already and we are about 20 min in? Marilyn was famously "prudish" in bed and so far this is an excuse for Marilyn threesome porn.

This movie has so many facts wrong

- there was no threesome (nothing to prove it anyways)
- Marilyn really wanted children, she had endo which makes it difficult to birth children, it caused her to have 3 miscarriages
- JFK abortion was a conspiracy theory that they put in https://t.co/6Ny0m1JzT1
Take a shot everytime #marilynmonroe says “daddy” in the Netflix movie Blonde. What a shame, to infantilize her like that. Marilyn was an intelligent woman. Plus the Chaplin throuple? Never happened.

So far, Blonde has a boring screenplay (just like the book), a mostly ugly cinematography, a bag full of lies (the threesome for instance) and Ana de Armas playing Marilyn like Marilyn played characters in her pictures. There’s definitely nothing to save here.

As it stands, the people behind Blonde are yet to address the backlash over the fictional throuple. However, Ana De Armas has defended the show's sex scenes. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Ana claimed that they were all "essential" to convey the film's message.
