Bella Thorne is facing backlash over a Halloween makeup look she posted to Instagram last week. The actress has been accused of "glamorising domestic violence" in a series of selfies she shared where she appears to have a black eye, a split lip and a bruised jaw.

Bella captioned the Instagram photos: "Hire me for your Halloween makeup I got u boo 🔪🔪🔪 😂😂". The realistic looking makeup actually shocked some of Bella's fans, prompting dozens to express their genuine concern for the star in the comments. Many revealed that they believed she'd been hurt before reading her playful caption.
"I immediately got angry that someone hit you. This is uhhh p fkn scary [sic]," one person wrote.
"I was so scared until I read the caption," read a similar comment.
Screenshots captured by the Daily Mail show that some were less shocked and actually more upset over the look. A few called out the actress for the makeup, saying that it was "insensitive" and it "romanticised" domestic violence.
"I'm just sickened and so disappointed in you. What a platform you have and misuse it like this. Sickening Bella," wrote one passionate commenter.
While it was obviously a makeup look, it's understandable that some may feel that the apparent theme was "inappropriate" or "insensitive".
Bella hasn't addressed the criticism yet but her actual Halloween costume was far less controversial. She dressed as a sexy Girl Scout with a "cookie delivery".
After posting the controversial makeup look, she continued on in the Halloween spirit by sharing fan photos of people who dressed as her, and her TV and film characters.
