The director of Netflix's Abducted In Plain Sight recently revealed a deleted scene from the already intense documentary.
Abducted In Plain Sight is the true crime documentary that shocked Netflix audiences this year because of its unbelievable twists and turns. Viewers reacted strongly to the story of Jan Broberg, a girl who was abducted twice in the 1970s by a neighbour and family friend named Robert Berchtold.
In Abducted In Plain Sight, the adult Jan Broberg and her family members recount the years that Robert Berchtold was in their lives, including a point in time when Jan was missing and a presumed runaway.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the director of the documentary, Skye Borgman, revealed that there were other parts of the story that didn't make the final cut.
According to Borgman, Mary Ann and her brother allegedly met up with Robert Berchtold in a parking lot and they even brought a gun with them. This fascinating detail did not make the documentary, however.
Of course, we don't know what was discussed in that alleged confrontation, or what the gun was actually for. It's also unclear when in the timeline of events that this meeting took place.
The Broberg parents were heavily criticised on social media, despite Jan's insistence that she doesn't blame them for what happened to her.
The parking lot gun confrontation would have added a layer to an already intense story of kidnapping, adultery, grooming, alien brain-washing and more.
Borgman also told Vanity Fair that she'd like to make a sequel to Abducted In Plain Sight so that she might explore "the role that faith plays" (the Brobergs were members of the LDS) as well as "grooming and brainwashing."
