The 'Gotta Be You' five-piece say they are spending a lot of time recording songs for the new album.

One Direction have revealed they are working hard on their second studio album and recorded a "cracking" song recently that they can't wait for fans to hear.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars are currently in the midst of recording the follow-up to their 2011 debut 'Up All Night', and say they have been spending as much time in the studio as possible, in between dates on their current North American tour.

"We've been recording already, actually," band member Niall Horan revealed to MTV News this week. "When we came back from Australia, we had a couple weeks off and then we went straight into the studio to get cracking on the next album.

"We wrote an absolutely cracking song that we're all kind of very excited about," the 'One Thing' singer teased. "Last week we were in LA and we had five days off the tour to record in LA so we recorded more there.

Earlier this week Niall admitted that band's 'Up All Night' US tour has been "absolutely nuts" and said all five band members feel lucky to have such enthusiastic fans around the world.

One Direction will wrap their US tour with two performances this weekend in Tampa, Florida (29th June) and Orlando, Florida (30th June).
