Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi has just been cast Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola's upcoming movie, Priscilla.
Priscilla will be based on the real Priscilla Presley's best selling memoir Elvis and Me, which is an intimate account of her life with Elvis. As well as directing, Coppola has also adapted the script for the film too.
Of course, Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge have recently dominated the big screen as Elvis and Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann's show-stopping biopic Elvis. But Coppola's film is set to be much, much different to that one. For starters, the titular role this time around is Priscilla.
Mare of Easttown actress Cailee Spaeny will play Priscilla, alongside Jacob as Elvis.
According to Deadline, insiders have said that Sofia Coppola met with a number of actors before actually deciding on who should play Elvis. Jacob ultimately landed the role. (Cailee, who will portray Priscilla, was reportedly Sofia's top choice from day 1.)
The other actors who were considered and ended up auditioning have not been revealed. When the news was first reported, Deadline journalist Justin Kroll appeared to imply that Justin Bieber had been considered for the role, but Billboard have since debunked that claim.
The actors who auditioned for Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic included Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
In response to his casting news, Jacob shared a photo of Elvis, with the caption: "E".
There's no release date just yet, but filming is set to begin in Toronto later this year. Until then, we'll just have to wait for our first glimpse of Jacob as Elvis.
