"I was really upset, man. It was a really dark time in my life."
Noah Centineo is one of the most in-demand actors right now and, famously, the internet's boyfriend. The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star has just reprised his role as Peter Kavinsky in the sequel, P.S. I Still Love You, which dropped on Netflix today (12 Feb).
Despite being hugely successful now, Noah has admitted that, at one point, he was in a "really dark" place and taking drugs. Just before he turned 17, Noah was heavily into the party scene. In fact, one of his favourite pastimes was to "take Molly and talk for five hours and like get to the bottom of some really deeply philosophical existential questions" with his friends.

Speaking in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Noah admitted dabbling in a variety of drugs during that time period. "There wasn’t really much I wouldn’t do," he explained. "I never, ever injected anything, which is good. I smoked a lot of things. I was really upset, man. It was a really dark time in my life."
Noah's parents divorced when he was 15, which meant he had to live in a hotel room with his mother, while his sister lived with their dad in Florida. He added: "As the 15-year-old living in close quarters with my mom, I felt an obligation to step up and fill a role, fill a position that was vacant at that time, you know, and in doing so, I bristled and I kind of shoved down a lot of emotion."
Noah is now completely sober. The actor has previously said that he stopped drinking, smoking and drug-taking the day before turning 21. Instead of partying, Noah has taken up journaling, mediation and screaming.
He continued: "I like baths. I like meditation. I like journaling. I talk to myself a lot if I’m mad at something that I did. I’ll scream at myself, really, like, looking in the mirror, right? Like, in my room. Like, 'Dude, like, stop, this is fucking unacceptable. You’re better than this!'
"I hold myself very accountable, but I can talk myself off of ledges too. And that’s a strong thing."
