The 'Dreamlover' singer is apparently upset as she believed she would be the only female on the show's panel.
Mariah Carey is reportedly upset at the rumours that Nicki Minaj is close to signing up as a judge on the next series of American Idol.
The 'Starships' rapper has been strongly linked with a role on the show this week, with some reports stating that she is very close to finalising a deal.
However, an inside source of the show has told TMZ that the prospect is in "no way a done deal" although it has riled Mariah as she was led to believe she would be the only female judge on the panel.
"Choosing Nicki would not only crush that expectation, it would add insult to injury because Nicki is a lot younger than Mariah," the source revealed.
Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams have also been linked with the role over recent weeks following Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez's exits.
TMZ also adds that the show is still unclear as to whether long-standing judge Randy Jackson will return leaving a further position open on the music reality series.

Kanye West is the latest name hotly tipped for a role as well, although sources told the site that he is still very unsure.
"He's on the fence, because he's not sure if A.I. is in his wheelhouse," they added.
Country stars Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Enrique Iglesias are also being considered.
