Unhappy Valentines Day? 10 Songs That Make You Feel Sad

Capital rounds up some of the most depressing and emotional songs every written for Valentine's Day.

For some of us, Valentine's Day isn't exactly all roses and chocolates - instead it's a day when we have to stand and watch as lucky lovers discuss their romantic plans in our faces.

It's a day when we're reminded that we're single, or of a bad relationship - so at Capital we thought we'd celebrate this by looking at some of the saddest songs ever written.

So if you're planning to spend 14th February sitting at home wondering when your next date will be, click play on these songs by the likes of Britney Spears, Adele and The Script, and you won't feel so sad anymore.

Britney Spears - 'Everytime'
Released in 2004, 'Everytime' was originally written by Britney in 2002 following her break-up from Justin Timberlake and is said to be a response to his track 'Cry Me A River', which publicly documented the breakdown of their relationship.
Amy Winehouse - 'Back To Black'
'Back To Black' was the title single from the late Amy Winehouse's second album and fused soul and modern R&B to create arguably one of the most memorable love songs of the century.
Coldplay - 'Fix You'
Coldplay's 'Fix You' was released on September 2005 as one of the singles from the band's album 'X&Y'. Chris Martin is understood to have written the track for Gwyneth Paltrow following the death of her father.
The Script - 'Breakeven'
Taken from The Script's eponymous debut album, 'Breakeven', tells the story of a relationship through the eyes of the band's frontman Danny O'Donoghue.

'Take A Bow' featured on the re-release of Rihanna's third studio album 'Good Girl Gone Bad' and was written by StarGate and Ne-Yo. The song was praised for its powerful impact and generated strong support from her fans.

The Streets - 'Dry Your Eyes'
Mike Skinner's The Streets released 'Dry Your Eyes' in 2004 as part of their second album 'A Grand Don't Come For Free'. Although it was released in the summer, the track's sombre musicality sounded like being wrapped up in a blanket on a cold winter's night.
Adele - 'Someone Like You'
When it comes to sad songs, they don't come much sadder than Adele's global hit 'Someone Like You'. Written with Dan Wilson for her second album '21', the song was inspired by a broken relationship and see Adele struggling to come to terms with the reality of being single.
