The artists will be hoping to start the new year at the top of the charts with the X Factor winner aiming for two weeks in a row.

X Factor 2012 champion James Arthur could be set to claim the first Vodafone Big Top 40 number one of 2013 with his debut single 'Impossible'.

The singer returned to the summit of the charts this past weekend after being denied the Christmas number one by The Justice Collective and will be hoping he can hold off competition from Will.i.am and Britney Spears.

The pair's collaboration 'Scream And Shout' has remained inside the top three of the iTunes chart for the past few weeks and will be hoping to finally make it to the number one spot this weekend.

Following her New Year's Eve midnight kiss with boyfriend Harry Styles, Taylor Swift will also be looking to make a charge to the top with her latest release 'I Knew You Were Trouble'.

Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Olly Murs could also make a final push to take the coveted first top spot of the year.

Meanwhile, James Arthur has this week been rumoured to be heading into the studio to work on his debut album alongside Adele produer Fraser T Smith – who has also teamed up with the likes of Dappy and Florence & The Machine.

Tune in to Capital this weekend between 4pm -7pm and listen to the Vodafone Big Top 40 with Rich and Kat and find out who is named number one.
