The 'Princess Of China' band will perform two songs for their appearance on the US talent show.

Coldplay have announced their will perform live on American Idol for the first time next week.

The 'Paradise' four-piece will take to the stage on next Thursday's episode of the popular Fox talent show where they will perform tracks from their 2011 album 'Mylo Xyloto'.

"Coldplay will perform two songs on @AmericanIdol on 3 May," the band tweeted this afternoon (26th April).

Coldplay's American Idol performance falls in the midst of the band's current tour of North American, which hit California this week and saw group members Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland post a picture of themselves hanging out at the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge yesterday (25th April).

Earlier today a tour edition video of Coldplay's song 'Princess Of China' emerged featuring Rihanna performing her part of the song, and the video is currently being used in the background of the band's live shows.

The 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' band were confirmed last weekend for the line-up of this year's Capital FM Summertime Ball at Wembley Arena on 9th June.

Coldplay are due to perform on American Idol on Thursday 3rd May at 8pm on Fox.
