The fourth season of The Crown was bound to make a splash given the arrival of Princess Diana into the life of the royal family.

But the Netflix show has now gone viral in a way the creators probably didn't expect thanks to a meme featuring Diana, played by Emma Corrin.

The scene that birthed the meme arrives in the third episode, 'Fairytale', when Charles and Diana attend a press conference at Buckingham Palace to announce their engagement.

At this point in the series, Diana is still very young, only 19 or 20, and has yet to acclimatise to the intense media interest in her relationship to the future king. She stands awkwardly next to Charles as they answer questions from the press, although it is Charles that does most of the talking.

When asked about the forthcoming wedding, as Charles explains they haven't done much planning yet, the camera zooms in on Diana's face as she listens to Charles and the journalist talk.

While Corrin's acting doesn't feel out of place or overdone in the actual scene, and she has been praised by critics and audiences alike for her role in the show, her facial expressions out of context are pure meme fodder.
